Courses and Qualifications

And other things I have done, that others might want to do - Remember courses and qualifications are NOT a replacement for experience and practice.

Captain Dan...

I was very lucky in the early stages of sailing to be introduced to a Yacht Master - and Cargo Ship Sailor  - Captain Dan - Dan helped me out in the early stages to get going, what does this rope do, what does that rope do, what's this called, what's that called lol, he really got me used to the "ropes" and the understanding of sailing - including some basic navigation courses and on-site (on-boat) live training, I think we got in about 40 hours at sea before I felt comfortable to take the boat out in the bay by myself, those early lessons from Cap Dan were worth so much. Captain Dan still comes aboard now and is still giving me lessons - when he is back from sea, and when his wife lets him. Having on-board lessons in your own boat is so important.

International Certificate for Operators of Pleasure Craft.

OfCom and Register of UK Vessels

I have also registered my boat with OfCom and have MMSI (Maritime Mobile Service Identity) for both my fixed Ship VHF and my portable VHF, finally I have registered the boat with the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency so that I am ready to wander into foreign waters if I choose to.
